Top 10 things to do in Bend, OR this winter
I attempt to make a list of the Top 10 things to do in Bend twice a year. Once in Summer and once right before Winter. I have repeated a few spots on this list. I wanted to add some funky eastside establishments that my family and I have been frequenting, but decided to stick with my original intent. The goal is to produce a list that a visitor would would find useful, not too touristy, and a good value. I also hope you find them authentic, practical, beautiful like number 10!
I have never before placed Mt. Bachelor on my list. I assume you are coming to go to Mt. B. However, your family may not ski. Mt Bachelor is still a not-to-be-missed destination whatever time of year you visit Bend. In winter you can take a snow shoe tour, let your dog run in an off leash area, cross country ski, sled, take a dog sled ride, drink hot cocoa in the lodge, have a beer on the deck, and shop in one of the areas best ski shops.
If you are looking for something healthy and afforable to eat, Bend just added a Laughing Planet. It's on 3rd st in the center of town. Easy access and something for everyone on the menu.
When you visit Bend, a Brew Pub is likely on your to do list. Maybe pass on the town favorite (10 Barrel). They just sold out to Anhauser Busch, and try another local favorite Crux. Be there at sunset. They have one of the best viewing spots in town.
Breakfast can be a challenge in Bend around 10 am on a weekend morning. Try the Hideaway Tavern on south 3rd st. Large fresh portions of the perfect breakfast fare.
Looking for evening entertainment? Find the Tin Pan Theater located in downtown's Tin Pan Alley. It only seats 45 and shows funky alt films. It's super cool inside and you can enjoy a glass of wine and popcorn with your Indie film.
Looking for some unique shopping. Bend has some great consignment/ resale shops. Rescue Consignment is one of the biggest and best. They carry fun local designers as well as fresh second hand.
My families favorite lunch spot secret is the Taco Stand. It is wedged between downtown, the Old Mill and the Parkway. Hours are for locals. Check the times before you go.
Need your fat tire Mountain bike tuned? Need to rent backcountry gear? Need coffee, local kombuccha, or a selection of cool beers from around the State? Crows Feet Commons in the Historic Raddemacher house in downtown right on the river is the place to go. Ask them if they are hosting any live music that night.
A locally owned toy store is always a good place to hit when you travel. You can't go wrong with Leapin' Lizards. They have a fun staff, and a great selection of awesome toys!
