Marketing with Music

Winter festival fun with the Fam! Paul Cauthen and Sierra Farrel stole the show.

I created a “Bio” for my Instagram account yesterday. I’m still getting my head around how I’m going to use it, but I took a class on how to grow my Instagram account and get my website to show up when people are searching for a Realtor in Bend, OR and the instructor said “You must have a link in Bio”. What? At Cowgirl Cash my social media following grew steadily and organically over 15 years. Not a lot of shops sold Vintage Cowgirl Boots. So I popped up. Also… who doesn’t love cool old Cowgirl Boots? So I got a follow. As I created my Bio, I got to the part of adding my “socials”. I chose the three I’m on and use...

Spotify and Pinterest and IG.

Music started as branding for me at Cowgirl Cash. When I opened in 2009, an Old Bend friend with cool style, unprompted suggested I play Jerry Jeff Walker in the shop. I trusted this kid, and found a Best of Jerry Jeff Walker CD and began to play it all day. I fell in love with Jerry Jeff, and the customers that found their way into my back alley Western Vintage shop began to comment on the music and add new singer song writer suggestions. The playlist grew, Spotify was discovered, and soon I had fallen in love with a new genre of music that I didn’t even know what to call. Hayes Carll was the artist that really opened my eyes, and at a concert in Portland at the Aladin Theater I asked some die hard Hayes fans what they called this style of music…. Red Dirt Texan was their answer. Since then I’ve heard it called Texas Music, and Red Dirt, but the idea is the same. Artists discovered you could write, perform, tour, sell swag, sing your own songs without pandering to record companies and being confined to their formula, and make a living. Basically, this music is “fuck em, I’m doing my own thing” #art

Since 2009, I’ve had a sound track playing all day, that not only defined my business and my merchandise, but my life! Epic trips with family and friends have been taken to see live shows and experience the vibe.

Carrie and I in Portland last Fall to see Brent Cobb!

Instead of naming artists in this blog, I made a playlist (that can be found in my Bio by clicking the Spotify logo) that captures many of my favorite singer song writers. In September alone we have plans to see Margo Price at HooDoo at Bigstock. I’m flying to Colorado to see Charley Crocket at Red Rocks with my kids, Red Shahan is at the Volcanic, and Nikki Lane is performing at Hayden Homes. Hoping maybe to see Sturgill Simpson too…

Nikki Lane will be at Hayden Homes Sept 24

Under the Big Sky in Whitefish, MT.

The all day playlist has stopped. The work focus has shifted since I’ve handed the reins of Cowgirl Cash. The link in Bio, may get some use however. I hope to use it to define Cowgirl Properties; share more listings, more projects, more ideas, more stories, more stuff.

Give me a follow and a share and stay tuned.

I LOVE Charley Crocket.
